More to Love: some new sketches

I always love the “making of” features at the back of the DVDs; I find it fascinating how movies are made, love seeing the raw pencil tests for animation, or 3D without all the final textures applied.

I think many people are interested in how stuff is made; one of the most popular pages on my website is a short Flash demo that shows the basics of my illustration techniques.

So here this week are several previews for the next book in my series of illustrated books on “positive body image and self-esteem for the plus-size majority”. The title is *hush hush* until I finish it and send it out for copyright, but the theme is similar to “More to Love”: Don’t hold back on your dreams and ambitions because of your size!

I originally started this blog to post my progress on “More to Love”.
Rather than start all over with another blog, I’ll keep this as my sketchbook, posting new drawings and writings on my favorite topic: living a big full happy life!

My working process consists of rough pencil sketches, followed by clean tracings, which are then scanned into my computer and formatted for digital painting.

I usually draw the background and all the “props” on a different page and combine them later.

The daydreamer will have a beach landscape,
the ice skater a winter wonderland landscape
and the hiker an autumn mountain landscape.

It would be more efficient to rough out the entire book first and then paint them all later, but I am anxious to play with some color.
(also, I haven’t quite finished writing it yet…)
Have a question or a comment? I’d be happy to answer!
