Serenely Idle

2 reasons I’m excited by this illustration:
1. Its the FIRST finished work for the next book in the “More to Love” series of inspirational illustrated books for the “plus size majority”. (!!!)

2. Its the FIRST time I’ve submitted anything to “Illustration Friday”.

What is Illustration Friday? According to their website: “Illustration Friday is a weekly illustration challenge. A topic is posted every Friday and then participants have all week to come up with their own interpretation.”

Illustration Friday just so happened to choose “Idle” as the weekly challenge.
My illustration goes with a page about being serene in the face of chaos.
So this lucky woman, serenely idle by the water, enters the public twice this week.
What a fortunate coincidence!

Here is a closeup of the detail in the illustration, original size is 9″ x 12″.
I draw first with pencil, scan it into Photoshop, then finish the illustration in Corel Painter.
I use primarily tempera, chalk pastel, ink, airbrush, and create my own fabric patterns.
