Silly Question
Should I really hate myself
because of the size of my jeans?
© excerpt from “More to Love“
Many deep questions may haunt you in the middle of the night:
What is the meaning of life?
Who is my soul mate?
What happens when I die?
Then there is the endless stream of day-to-day concerns:
What’s for dinner?
Did I remember to pay the phone bill?
Where are my keys?
And if that wasn’t enough, serious global questions beg to be answered:
What about poverty, disease, pollution, wars, the economy?
But one of the silliest questions we ask ourselves, over and over, is:
“Do I look fat in this?”
Get a grip girl!
How many of the 6.5 BILLION people in the world actually care what size you wear?
Care whether or not you can fit into your “skinny jeans”?
Care if you hate your thighs?
Free! Bonus Follow-up Question:
And even if they do care, So What ? ! ?
Having higher self-esteem or a positive body image won’t
answer your deep questions, solve your daily problems, or change the world at large. But if you stop wasting time feeling bad about your butt,
you just might be able to answer the small questions
and think more deeply about the big ones.
And, oh by the way, according to an article by the Onion,
World Death Rate Holding Steady at 100 Percent
Do you think people will mention your dress size at your funeral?
The world population clock changes continuously!
How many people in the world don’t give a hoot about your weight ?

Great advice Elizabeth! Let’s forget the silly questions to make room for the really important ones! I really believe if you love yourself everyone will love you too!
<3
Great advice!! There are so many things to focus on, but it can be easy to get caught up in vanity.
Excellent advice! Me? I just don’t try on those skinny jeans – I avoid them like the plague.
No, you shouldn’t. And you should love yourself for the great advice you give. Love your blog…it’s so darling, doll.

Here is a wonderful post by Andrea Owen about finally getting rid of her skinny jeans. So many women torture themselves both physically and emotionally over something that is, in reality, completely irrelevant to leading a happy, fulfilled life. Let’s take our lives back from size obsession!
I don’t care what others think of my butt, but I care what I think of it and I WANT those skinny jeans on MY butt! LOL! Found you on SITs.
Hi Tami! Skinny jeans may be just right for you, and that’s great too. I think its wonderful to feel attractive and sexy and fashionable, no matter what size jeans you wear.
PS: I love the new narrow leg jeans (AKA “skinny”) with a long tunic or over-sized sweater…
Great message! It’s hard to put those questions and thoughts behind you. The world we live in is very image-centered. Thank you for spreading such a positive message!
…stopping by from SITS…

I absolutely love the artwork !

Great blog!
I don’t own any skinny jeans…..just fatter jeans, in case I gain a little weight. That happens more often than me losing it
But it was so much fun obsessing about my weight!!!!
I don’t even remember what my skinny jeans look like.
I just love this. Love it so much I can not even stand it! Thank you : ). Thank you so much for reminding me to keep it in perspective!
Stopping by from SITS. This blog is awesome. It’s so refreshing to see something out there that tells us to approve of ourselves the way we are instead of tips on how to fit societies cookie cutter mold of beautiful. I’ve been struggling to get my body back in pre pregnancy shape and I’m sick of berating myself. I created and brought life into this world, who cares if I’m still wearing pants with an elastic waistband?
Love the new blog look!
And in this context, it is easy to see how silly questions about our appearance really are.
Stopping by from SITS! Great blog!
I have been a reader for a long while, but am a first time commenter. I just wanted to say that this has been / is my favorite update of yours! Keep up the good work and I’ll keep on checking back.
its a girl thing i think too…obsessing about weight. I personally am thrilled everytime I fit into a smaller size. I guess there are more important things to stress out about.
You ask all the right questions.
Love your posts.
I love your blog. I have been “battling the bulge” for just about my whole life. I even started a second blog geared towards this and I haven’t had anything but failure.
Maybe it’s time to take a different route. Thank you for finding the beauty in everyone.
Stopping in from SITS.
Very good advice! I think women do generally get caught up in sizes and stress of things that just don’t matter that much. This is refreshing!
Congrats on your SITS day!
Love it!
Here from SITS and really glad I found you. Happy SITS FB Day!
You are so right. Thinking about your body image constantly keeps you from thinking about the really important things.
so true! Hope to remember this and pass the message on to my daughter when she gets older.
So true! Your site design is completely awesome, by the way!
There are better things to think about for sure!
I found that when I was in my 30’s I started caring less about size and more about health. I wish I would’ve realized how liberating it was, earlier on. I’m thankful that my daughter doesn’t obsess about her weight; she’s smart to have developed that sense earlier than I did:)
I’m going to bookmark this post and come back to it on days when I need to get a grip! Thanks so much.
It’s so refreshing to read your blog, Elizabeth! But I have to admit, I am torn. I love the message about not caring what other people think about your weight, but I also think it’s important to honor the part of you that wants to be a healthy size… I know with cellulite, women are often told that we’re being vain when we try to treat it. But it’s also a strong inner desire for health. You’ve just set off a load of conflicting thoughts in my brain!
So true! Amen my sistah! I actually stopped asking myself that question & started admiring myself in them….no,I am not afraid to say that! Stopping by from SITS….like your blog a lot!
Love the drawings. It’s nice to read about something besides diets, size, & who can really fit into those skinny jeans besides an anorexic model.
Happy SITS Day!
Thank you, Elizabeth, for using your art to share this message. I think it’s beautiful.
happy SITS day!
You know what’s sad? My MOM cares more about my jean size than I do. I am 38yrs old but get more flack from her about gaining weight than anyone. Even sadder than that? She is NOT skinny. I don’t let her bother me, but I find it interesting. I wonder how many mothers out there put pressure on their kids.
The sad truth is that girls as young as 1st grade feel pressure to be thin, so it’s not just mothers, it’s the entire culture! We need to work with the idea that healthy women and girls naturally come in many different shapes and sizes, not just fashion model thin.
here is an article about little girls worrying about their weight
Great advice. I always tell people I’ll eat what I want now because I’ll be skinny enough when I am dead!
Cheers

Ok, I’m definitely following you. You’re brilliant!
Death rate is still at 100%! I love it. Sometimes we do get too focused on superficial things. Stopping by from SITS.
I care if I can fit into my jeans or not, but I also look at it and ask myself “am I healthy”.
Right on! Thanks for writing about that. You are so absolutely right!!! Stopping by from SITS.
Seriously, when so many people are hungry in this world, it’s a very silly question to ask if we’re too fat in something. Great post and happy SITS day!
I just realized this same thing when I went shopping yesterday! I have never even considered how big or small my friends are. Or my boyfriend. I don’t think badly about large people I see in the street.
If I gain a few pounds, who cares?? If the coolest store no longer carries my size, they’re losing about 30% of their business. Their problem, not mine.
You are absolutely right. Just keep telling us over & over because we need to hear it a lot. Luv ya!
You are SO right! You go girl! A great reminder for all of us!
Dropping by from SITS ..you’re damn right ..one shouldnt care about the size ..there’s already plenty to worry abt in life
*L* right on! Sometimes I’d be nervous meeting my husband’s coworkers because while he’s talked about them I’m picturing them to be well… thinner, prettier etc… and I wonder what they will think of his short, plump wife and then I meet them and they are normal everyday people… what was I worry about. Silly!
Dropping by from SITS. Love your attitude.
Spot on! This is a great post. Stopping by from SITS.
I love, love, love this. I actually have two drawers at home. One for the “skinny”jeans when I lose weight and then the, ummm, “bigger jeans” when I gain.Sometimes I just want to relax and say f- it,,,i’m a big girl end of conversation. other times I feel stress to conform to what I think the ideal size is. Regardless I am glad to have stumbled onto your site..thanks to SITS
I gotta tell ya’ I worry about this constantly. Drives me NUTS. Must stop!!! Have a Happy SITS day!
What?!?! You mean people in China don’t check in with my scale every day. I can’t believe this is true.
Amen! Amen! Amen!
I love a comfy pair of jeans, but thanks for reminding us all not to make that a priority! Have a great day! A.
Love how you bring it down to the common denominator – so true!
