if only she would lose weight…
REMEMBER:
Rude comments and insults are
a reflection of the petty mind of the commenter
and have nothing to do with the truth of
who we really are.
Sadly, even though we know this,
we often waste our time and break our hearts reacting to the insults.
Sadder still, we sometimes pass the harshest judgments of all on ourselves…
Women are not a collection of flawed parts that need to be fixed!
Heart & soul,
hopes & dreams,
talents & experiences,
mind & memories,
and, yes, our entire bodies (every single part)
are inseparably entwined into an absolutely amazing, one-of-a-kind life.
We can waste time reacting to ignorant comments from ignorant people.
We can be miserable passing harsh judgement on ourselves.
Or we can live our absolutely amazing, one-of-a-kind life with our pretty faces held high!
How do you react to negative comments about your appearance?

If I had a dime for every time someone has told me “You have such a pretty face”, I’d be rich! One woman even went on to say, “What a pity that your Hubby let you get so fat!”
Next time someone admires your pretty face, you should ask for that dime!
(and now I’m thinking its such a pity that woman’s husband “let her get” so catty…)
Leslie, the answer to that one is “Well, he doesn’t let me out of the kitchen, so what else am I to do?”
One of my pet peeves is people who think it’s OK to make these kinds of comments to others! I really dislike how society judges by appearance, no matter what other qualities a person has. I’m thinking specifically of all the heat female politicians take when they don’t fit the acceptable “feminine ideal.”

Uggg, this is one of my biggest pet peeves. My passion (and job!) is to help women realize that they are beautiful REGARDLESS of size. Thanks for the post.
that’s my passion too Catherine. glad you stopped by!
When I was younger I would have smiled and then cried later.
)
Today I just smile and say, “Why thank you, my husband usually says it’s my dangerous curves that are the most beautiful part.” And then I walk away to my uber handsome hubby!
So true, I’m going to try to remember what you’ve said the next time I hear a harsh comment OR look in the mirror and think harsh things about myself.
Stopping by from SITS. Have a great day.
Being one of the younger bloggers out there, I can totally relate to these kind of statements. Since my high school years are right behind me, I can still vividly remember all those nasty girls just being mean! They wouldn’t even say “what a pretty face!” unless they were your friend. Hopefully, if all of us women stand up, this might end some day
I agree, we ALL need to stand up to this form of “nice” bullying!
And we also need to realize that women can be beautiful all sizes, so that “such a pretty face” is a compliment no matter what!
I’ve got the “You’ve got a pretty face” t-shirt. My mom once handed me a diet and exercise book along with these words, “I think your husband’s having an affair.”
Sometimes I think people just don’t know what they’re saying until after it comes out.
Happy SITS day!
I wish I was one of those big girls who had a pretty face; that way I at least had SOMETHING going for me @_@
Those are very sad words Lori. If you truly believe you have nothing going for you (which you know in your heart-of-hearts is NOT true!) then PLEASE find someone supportive to talk too. SOON!
