The seeds of change I plant today
become the garden of my dreams.
No, I’m not just speaking of plants…
Whether it’s achieving a long term goal
or carrying on with a long term project,
tiny seeds sometimes take a very long time to
flower and bear fruit.
The big dreams in anyone’s garden take time.

I often find myself dreaming
of the perfect, simple, quiet, beautiful life
free of drama and stress…
It involves long, unbroken stretches of quiet time where I can write and draw and paint and garden.
In this dream world, I take long walks in picturesque and unspoiled countryside.
I am in great physical condition from

It can be very inspiring to admire and emulate those who are the best in their fields:
athletes, artists, masters of anything from
cooking to dancing to fashion design.
But it can also be very disheartening:
No matter how much I try,
or how how I work at it
I’ll never be as good as (name

In 2012:
Live a large life,
whatever
size you wear!
The interwebs are full of good ideas for New Year’s Resolutions
(and lots of reasons why they fail!)
so I’ll just give you one simple sentence to start the New Year off on a positive note:
I live a large life whatever size I wear!

So very much of our lives as women
are colored by feelings that
everything must be “perfect”:
the perfect body,
the perfect face,
the perfect hair,
the perfect home,
the perfect clothes and
the perfect holidays.
Must buy the perfect gift!
Must bake the perfect cookies!
Must have the

Thanksgiving brings it’s own unique stresses.
whether you are cooking at home
or traveling as a guest.
Preparing for a feast with dozens of traditional dishes
and a houseful of guests requires major planning
and hours of work.

Two things I love about going to the beach are
finding seashells and watching people.
A perfectly flawless shell is a rare discovery,
but the shells that are tossed and worn by the tides
are far more interesting in their unique individuality,
because of the imperfections.

I confess.
I secretly love it when someone compliments
a new haircut or admires my outfit.
But what really makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside is when I get praise for
something other than my appearance.
Notice my garden, ask me about my writing, compliment my children or my home, praise my drawing

Do these two conflicting “to do” lists
sound familiar?
1. Things I MUST do:
the house, the kids, the job, the shopping, the errands, the bills, the yard, the cooking, the cleaning
(and on and on and on!)
2. Things I WANT to do:
hang out with my friends, read a novel, take a class,

Take a walk through a garden nursery,
or flip through a seed catalog,
and you might become overwhelmed
with the variety of sizes, shapes, colors and forms.
Huge, thick-stalked sunflowers,
tiny clusters of delicate forget-me-nots,
the adorable faces of pansies,
lilies in every color of the rainbow.
Flowers that love cool, damp shady locations,
and flowers that thrive in
