Make an Ordinary Day a Special Occasion

I ran into one of my friends at the grocery store
on  Saturday.
As we caught up on chit-chat,
I was suddenly embarrassed to be seen
wearing my sloppy around-the-house clothes,
no makeup, my hair an unstyled mess.

While driving home,
I realized that I had a habit of wearing
my least favorite clothes
most the time!
Even though I

A Real Spring Cleaning

Please enjoy this re-post from last Spring.
I have been busy with my family this holiday week.

It seems so natural to clean up in the Spring:
raking up all those dead leftover leaves in the yard,
cutting back the roses to the new buds,
planting out some new seedlings.
And with all this

Cultivate Yourself

In the Springtime, I become slightly obsessed with
going outdoors and working in my yard.
After a long, dark winter stuck inside,
I just love all the garden chores:
raking up the dead leaves, pruning back the roses and butterfly bushes, adding compost, transplanting things that need moving around, starting seeds, planning what goes

Big Girls Don't Cry

Big girls don’t cry?
Girls of all sizes do cry!
And we probably should cry more than we do.

The truth is that the world can be a hard and unforgiving place,
filled with tragic situations and negative messages.
Every single one of us experiences loss, disappointment, rejection, physical pain, emotional pain, fatigue, and the

Small Bites of Pleasure

It’s easy to think of occasional big pleasures:
a long romantic weekend with an amazing lover,
a gourmet meal at a top restaurant,
a care-free day at the beach,
a head-to-toe luxury spa treatment.

But how often can you really find the time or money
for indulging in those big treats?
Between the job and the housework,

The Queen Size Queen

Queen Size

The skinny size may be idealized.
However,
Queen Size rules!

I just love the term “queen size”.
It such a grand and elegant name for larger clothing.

But, no matter what size we wear, many of us feel far from royal.

From the time we are little girls dreaming

Another Year, Another Chance

It doesn’t take any special powers to
predict next week’s conversations:
Friends, family & co-workers will be complaining about
how much they over-ate, over-drank, over-spent this week!
Everyone will be moaning about
going on a diet, de-toxifying or joining a gym.
Hardly anyone will sound very enthusiastic
about their new resolutions…

It seems to me

It's NOT what is in the giftbox...

I had a bit of a holiday meltdown while Christmas shopping after work last night.

I was tired.
I was feeling a bit pressured by the upcoming holidays.
I have family arriving to stay as guests,
and will also be traveling to visit out-of-state family.
I was thinking of finding time for the extra cooking,
and
